Why blood donation campaigns

We've been hearing about blood donation for almost our whole lives, but we rarely gave it a thought. Simply, blood donation is the process of blood transfusion from a living creature to another. It can be between animals or humans. Blood donation and transfusion is a vital part of medicine in the treatment of hundreds of patients annually.

Unfortunately, the concern towards blood donation is not as simple as its definition. It represents a major concern whether for everyone in the medical field or even for the society. Many cases depend on blood donation for their survival. This leads us to ask why? Why the idea of donating blood transformed from being a lifesaving concept to a concept of major concern.

Firstly, the demand and supply problem. The amount of blood available is not enough to sustain people's need or the hospitals' need, as maintaining a sustainable and adequate blood supply is an ongoing challenge. It is true to say that lack of awareness is the main reason for this. Most people are neither aware of the idea of donating blood nor its importance.

Secondly, the black market. It increased people's suffering to find or even afford getting the blood they need. We can say that the previous reasons are the main causes of making blood donation a major concern. Blood donation is a vital life saving procedure for people who suffer from severe blood loss or severe anemia. It is also needed in some postpartum cases in addition to some car accidents cases. Another indication for blood donation is preparation for surgery.

Donating blood doesn't only save lives but it also helps protecting the donor's life. By donating blood, you protect yourself from many possible blood and heart diseases. Just in case you didn't know the amount of blood you donate can save 3 people's lives. This makes us rethink our live choices and look at the idea of donating blood from a different perspective.

Our role in EPSF  focuses on solving the issue of donating blood. We've been working for the past 11 years to encourage people to donate blood as it is necessary to guard and grow the blood supply and continue to actively recruit new donors. We also seek to solidify the principle of a permanent donor in people’s minds.
